Early switch to digital TV

Areas in regional Australia are required to switch earlier than their scheduled switchover date as television broadcasters need to replace equipment at the local TV transmitter. The switch ordinarily is completed over the same day. Once the new equipment is installed, the analog signal is switched off and only digital TV services will be available.

The Government and the television broadcasters have sought to minimise the need for early switchovers, however this has proved necessary at a small number of locations.

Areas in regional NSW have already switched as a result. A full list of early switchover areas can be found at www.digitalready.gov.au
